Welcome to
Balancing work and personal life can be tough for anyone especially when things get busy, which is often the case for our Interior Designer clients! The non-stop train of site visits, presentations, vendor meetings and contractor calls can make it hard to find time for yourself. With summer now here, it’s the perfect opportunity to hit pause and focus on self-care. Here are some super simple tips to help you prioritize your well-being and find that sweet spot between work and play.
You wouldn’t skip a work meeting, right? Treat your downtime the same way (easier said than done, we know!). Block out some “me time” in your calendar, whether it’s for a hobby, a walk, or just lounging around. Make it non-negotiable so you get those much-needed breaks.
It’s crucial to set boundaries between work and personal time. Let clients know your work hours and stick to them. Some clients can have a nasty habit of texting outside of business hours (I have a designer who told me a client texts her at 5am most days!!). If you respond, they will expect it. Set focus hours on your phone. This way, you can truly switch off and relax when you’re off the clock.
We all want to help and be involved, especially when it comes to keeping clients happy, but overcommitting can lead to burnout. Be honest about what you can handle and don’t be afraid to say no to extra tasks or meetings that will overwhelm you.
Your environment plays a big role in how you feel. Make sure your home, especially your work area, is a place where you feel comfortable and calm. Add some plants, good lighting, or cozy furniture to create a space that helps you relax and focus.
Take advantage of the sunny weather and longer days. Whether it’s a beach day, a hike, or a simple picnic, get outside and enjoy nature. It’s a great way to unwind and break away from the normal routine!
Mindfulness and meditation are great for reducing stress. You don’t need to spend hours meditating; even a few minutes of deep breathing or just being present in the moment can make a big difference. Find what works for you and incorporate it into your day.
You don’t have to do everything yourself. If you’re feeling swamped, delegate tasks at work and home. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a smart way to manage your workload and stress levels.

Physical activity is a fantastic stress-buster. Find an exercise you enjoy, whether it’s yoga, running, swimming, or dancing, and make it a part of your routine. It’s great for both your body and mind.
What you eat affects how you feel. Try to eat balanced meals and avoid skipping them, even on busy days. Good nutrition can boost your energy and mood, helping you tackle whatever comes your way.
If you’re finding it hard to manage stress or just need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. Burnout is a very real thing and I see it happen to Designers who try to wear all the hats too often!
A therapist or counselor can provide valuable insights and strategies to help you cope and thrive.
Finding a balance between work and personal life can be challenging, but it’s essential for your well-being. This summer, make self-care a priority with these simple tips. Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s a must. Your colleagues and family will thank you for it too! When you’re well-rested and happy, everything else falls into place. Enjoy your summer and take care of YOU!
